The Boyana Church –
Bulgaria’s Finest Contribution to Medieval Art
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:
750 years ago, two Bulgarians turned their backs on all hardships and adversity, illness and enemy incursions, and – inspired by all things good and beautiful in this world, painted the murals in the Boyana Church, and thus bestowed a treasure on us. It is the biggest treasure with vibrant and expressive images, exquisite silhouettes and colour combinations which have been preserved and reached us from that age. The vibrant and expressive images, exquisite silhouettes and colour combinations, in fact, everything which the Italian masters, who worked 70 years later, believed to be the harbinger of the Renaissance.
Shouldn’t we, too, forget financial downturns and budget deficits, political prejudices and squabbles at least for a short time, and give that treasure to all Bulgarians, to
The National Museum of History (NMH), the Bulgarian Research and Educational Network Corporation (BREN) and International Software and Information Services Ltd (ISIS) under the patronage of the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, the Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov and the Minister Bozhidar Dimitrov as well as with the support of the National Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria for UNESCO are organising a campaign dedicated to the 750th anniversary of the painting of the Boyana Church – Bulgaria’s finest contribution to Mediaeval art.
